EXTRA NOTES:

Jollification, the third album by the Lightning Seeds, is arguably their finest moment. Recording for Jollification was completed in the tail end of 1993. Featuring the singles Lucky You, Change, Marvellous and Perfect, this album was the first be released in the UK on their new record label, Epic. In the States it was the first and last release on the indie label Trauma Records.

According to Ian Broudie it was the most comfortable record to make, although this statement was made before Dizzy Heights. Reason being was that Jollification was made with full record company support behind him, so he could get decent promotion. Ian had to concentrate on making the album as opposed to producing other artists or bands. He was no longer just "testing the water".

So, with full record support, Mr Broudie and friends managed to create one corker of an album, with my favourite moment being Telling Tales. It's just "perfect".

Lucky You was the first (and last) release from Jollification. On first release it failed to break the UK Top 40. Jollification also failed to set the album charts alight. But by the time of the release of Jollification, Broudie had cornered a few mates and assembled a touring band which would include Chris Sharrock and Martyn Campbell. Paul Hemmings and later Ali Kane would also join.

So with a new band and a host of live dates, a new year came, and in 1995 Change scored highly and gave the Lightning Seeds their second top 20 hit. This gave Jollification the boost it needed, and with the release of Marvellous, Perfect and the re-release of Lucky You sales of Jollification ticked over quite nicely until well over 600,000 copies found their way into British homes.
