Care recorded some material, mainly with Ian Broudie on guitars, production and keyboards, with Paul Simpson on the keyboards and guitars. Two other musicians, whose names escape me, play bass guitar and the drums. Tracks like Diamonds and Emeralds and A Sad Day For England are obvious drum machines, whereas stuff like Flaming Sword, Soldiers and Sailors, Cymophane and Whatever Posssessed You are most certainly live drums.

Care were signed to Arista and released three very good, and well received singles. The first one was My Boyish Days (Drink To Me). This was followed by the impossibly fine Flaming Sword, but it only just scraped into the top 50. The next single was the poppy Whatever Possessed You which unfortunately failed to chart. Flaming Sword is most probably the most well known of the Care songs, because Ian later recorded a version of it in 1990 for the Lightning Seeds, and it later saw its way on to the Sense single as a b-side. Ian still likes to perform this track live with the Lightning Seeds.

Care did record a full album and a few titles were considered, like "Such Is Life" and "Love Crowns and Crucifies", but the album was shelved because Paul and Ian did not quite see eye to eye. "We recorded an album but I got cold feet about releasing it. We'd stopped getting on. Ian was very much a night person, while I was a mornings person, so we ended up working seperately" recalls Simpson.
